Two ways in which your child could benefit from taking martial arts classes

Here are some of the ways in which your son or daughter could benefit from taking kids' martial arts classes.

They'll learn to be more resilient

One of the most amazing skills that your child could learn if they take kids' martial arts classes is resilience. This is because they will inevitably experience things like being defeated when sparring with other kids and getting struck or knocked down (but not badly injured, as children in these classes are well supervised by the martial arts teacher) by their opponents. After having these experiences, their martial arts teacher will then encourage them to get back up and continue to spar or do the next set of martial art drills.

Whilst they might initially be disheartened by, for example, losing a sparring session or falling over whilst trying to master a particular type of kicking technique, they will gradually learn how great it feels to pick themselves up and win the next session or master that technique after these small defeats. This resilience is a skill that they will then be able to apply to the difficulties they are likely to encounter in many other parts of their life, including their schoolwork, their friendships and their other hobbies. Having this skill will give them a much better chance of being happy and successful as they get older.

They'll learn how to protect themselves during physical altercations

Whilst ideally, you would almost certainly prefer your child to never get into a physical altercation, the reality is that these incidents can happen in, for example, a school playground, if your child's school has an issue with bullying. However, if your child regularly goes to martial arts classes, they'll be well-equipped to protect themselves during physical altercations.

At kids' martial art classes, children are taught, first and foremost, the importance of deescalating situations where there is a possibility of violence and of escaping if this is an option. In addition to this, they are shown tactics they can use to overpower an attacker, without causing any major physical injuries.

This is important, as if your child does find themselves in circumstances where a physical altercation is unavoidable, the best outcome would be for them to use a martial art move that leaves neither them nor their attacker injured, but which subdues the other person for a few seconds so that they have the opportunity to remove themselves from the situation.

Sports and Recreation Saved My Life

I can safely say that recreational activities and sports have saved my life. Before I started to fill my weekends with fun things to do, I was massively unhappy. I would sometimes sit alone and feel so low. My friend was worried about me so he invited me to his boxing club. I didn't want to go but I also didn't want to let my friend down. However, after the first session, I realised that I felt much better. I continued to try out other sports and even went out shooting with my friend. My mood improved and so did my fitness. I hope you like reading about my journey.
